Shubhendu Adhikari Takes Oath as Chief Minister of West Bengal in Grand Ceremony at Kolkata's Brigade Parade Ground
Shubhendu Adhikari was sworn in as the Chief Minister of West Bengal at Kolkata's Brigade Parade Ground in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Amit Shah, and senior BJP leaders. In his first address, he pledged to rebuild Bengal's education and cultural identity and lead a government committed to constitutional values.
Among the distinguished attendees were Rekha Gupta and Samrat Choudhary, both of whom arrived in West Bengal to participate in the ceremony. A day earlier, Amit Shah had formally announced the event during his visit to Kolkata.
During the swearing-in ceremony, Prime Minister Narendra Modi greeted party workers and supporters with a full prostration, a gesture that drew widespread attention. Alongside Shubhendu Adhikari, several senior BJP leaders also took the oath of office, including Dilip Ghosh, Agnimitra Paul, Ashok Kirtania, Kshudiram Tudu, and Nisith Pramanik.
Addressing the gathering after assuming office, Chief Minister Shubhendu Adhikari described the day as one of immense significance for both the nation and West Bengal. He said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had expressed a desire for the new government to assume office on the occasion of Rabindra Jayanti. Adhikari stated that the new administration took the oath while paying tribute to Rabindranath Tagore and reaffirming its commitment to the Constitution of India under the leadership of the Prime Minister.
He further asserted that a political party inspired by the ideals of Syama Prasad Mukherjee does not require validation from anyone. Emphasizing his role as the chief minister for every resident of the state, Adhikari said he now belonged to all people of West Bengal.
Referring to ongoing discussions over the election results, he said those continuing to debate the outcome should gain wisdom and move forward. He claimed that West Bengal had suffered extensive damage in recent years, alleging that the education system had deteriorated and the state's cultural heritage had been undermined. Vowing to rebuild Bengal, he said his government carried a tremendous responsibility and remained focused on the task ahead.
The swearing-in of Shubhendu Adhikari marks a defining moment in West Bengal's political history. With the presence of the country's top leadership and a strong commitment to restoring the state's educational and cultural foundations, the new administration has signaled the beginning of a significant political and administrative transition.
